Kirbytextiles design a range of contemporary, hand painted ladies scarves and greetings cards. Each design is a one off, completely individual. The designs are created by Louise Kirby using the finest 100% silk material in her WASPS studio in Dundee. Working in an innovative way, Louise creates collections using a natural process which allows experimentation and retains the lively painterly quality in her products. Inspiration for Louise’s work draws from a range of cultural sources through her travels and the local landscape. From breathtaking views of northern Vietnam and the stripes of palm trees on deserted Thai beaches to patches of ploughed Scottish fields. Pattern and textures feature heavily in her work with the juxtaposition of colour to create exciting abstract compositions. Louise gained a Ba Hons in Textile Design from Duncan of Jordanstone in 1999. Since graduating, she has been a practicing commercial textile designer creating fashion prints for retailers worldwide. She has worked in London and Australian studios and regularly teaches students within Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art.
